Introducing SnagMob Gossip

SnagMob Wants YOU
(to spread gossip about us)

If we had a nickel every time someone said to us, “Hey, why don’t you see if (enter business or store) would do a SnagMob deal,” then we’d be good lookin’ AND wealthy. So we’ve decided to create an incentive for SnagMobbers to talk about us…and make some money in the process.

Recommend SnagMob to your favorite business and make some SnagMob cash. Here’s how:

  1. Print out our handy SnagMob Merchant Invitation. You can download and print it off here.
  2. Visit your favorite business and tell the decision maker (usually the owner or senior manager) about SnagMob and why we rock (modesty isn’t our best attribute).
  3. Hand them your printed SnagMob invitation and point them to our fancy new website:
  4. If they complete the one-minute application and list you as the referral, you get $25 SnagMob bucks.
  5. We’ll handle the rest. Feel free to do the SnagMob Dance.

Fine Print:
There’s no limit as to how many businesses you can recommend • The business MUSToffer a practical product or service that SnagMob subscribers would be interested in purchasing at least a 50 percent discount (No elephant shoe cobblers or Beehive Enthusiast Magazine subscriptions, please) • The business can’t have run a previous SnagMob deal • The business MUST list you as the referral • The business must be located within 30 miles of Jackson, Tennessee • No self-nominations permitted

Great way to buddy up to your favorite business owner • Get SnagMob bucks towards the things you love in Jackson & West Tennessee • Help get the word out about SnagMob!

New Local Website Centers on Family

Building on SnagMob’s Family Theme Week and our commitment to local business, we wanted to point out Jackson’s very own Macaroni Kid, a new e-mail newsletter devoted to finding and listing family-oriented activities around Jackson and West Tennessee. They’ve got some cool giveaways coming up next week to celebrate the 4th of July, so make sure you sign up for their e-mail newsletter right here. They’re also a great source to find out cool discounts on places to go and eat around town (And they’ve given SnagMob some recent love on their website, so we can’t complain about that either).

Happy Independence Weekend, folks!

It’s Family Time in Tennessee, sort of…

In celebration of families everywhere, is announcing the announcement of our first themed week: Family Theme Week! Aside from the wordy repetition, what does this mean for me, you might wonder? Well, next week, June 27th through July 3rd, is going to be offering amazing deals on the things families love in Jackson and West Tennessee. Think great times, eats, fun, water, treats, deliciousness and a strong dose of revolutionary technology.

Interest peaked? Well, here’s a new layer of peaked-ness. As some of you know, SnagMob has a great referral program in place. Basically, if you get a friend to sign up on SnagMob and they end up purchasing a deal, then you get five bucks in your SnagMob account. Not bad, right? Well, for Family Theme Week, we’re doubling your referral bonus. Starting Monday, June 27th, and ending Sunday, July 3rd, we’re giving away $10 SnagMob bucks for every new referral that makes a purchase during Family Theme Week.

We were going to call it Double Family Week because of the incentives and such, but that sounded kinda Dateline NBC-ish, so we’re just sticking with Family Theme Week for now.

Starting Monday, be on the lookout for deals that ALL might enjoy, but moms, dads and kiddos will especially dig.

Celebrate Bike to Work Day

Memphis Greenline (photo courtesy of Allen Elliotte)

For those wondering, Memphians are today celebrating Bike to Work Day, a tad unusual since the rest of the country celebrated it last Friday. Nevertheless, since you’ve probably already commuted to work today (or you’re really, really late), then perhaps you should celebrate Jackson’s Bike to Work Day by buying today’s SnagMob Deal: Half Off a Professional Bicycle Tune Up from Hub City Bicycle Co. in Jackson. Already tuned and ready for a nice ride? Then we’ve got $5 for $10 Worth of Merchandise from Hub City side deal waiting for you.

While we have your attention, SnagMob has been looking at the huge success of the Greater Memphis Greenline Project that has linked local parks with bike and walking trails. Similar projects have proved highly successful in East Tennessee towns like Maryville and Alcoa. The arguments for something like this are effective: promoting a healthier lifestyles, aesthetically pleasing trails and parks, and perhaps most importantly, an economic development tool when we sell Jackson as a place to work, live and play.

Would you like to see a more concerted effort for a Jackson Greenline Project to connect our park system? Which of our city’s government officials or business leaders might be interested in getting behind such a project?

Support the Roaring Tiger Tonight

If you’re looking to support a good cause that will positively impact the Jackson community, feel free to swing by tonight’s Let the Tiger Roar Rally, an event supporting the decision by University of Memphis to potentially acquire Lambuth University’s college campus. Most agree that this a positive step for the Jackson community, but with mounting pressure from critics and the Governor’s budget up for debate this week (with money set aside to support the campus transition), it’s important to show solidarity for this higher education investment.

The Rally will be at Conger Park, 6pm to 8pm, on Monday, May 16th. Fill your bellies tonight with typical complimentary rally fare–hot dogs and cokes–and listen to the live entertainment’s Bono-like rally cries for freedom from religious prosecution (or perhaps a less dramatic message). Regardless, a strong showing by the Jackson community will send a stronger signal to the decision-makers-that-be that we need a four-year, public university for myriad of reasons, including significant economic development, continuing infrastructure improvements to Midtown and affordable educational opportunities that might not otherwise be available to our city and region.

For more information, here’s a Memphis Commercial Appeal article that ran yesterday. If you’re planning on attending, here’s the Facebook event page so you can tell your frienemies all about it.

If you’re coming, make sure to look for SnagMob. We’ll be the one wearing jeans and that nice shirt you like so much.

Celebrate a Sweet Cinco de Mayo

In the last few years, Cinco de Mayo has emerged as the defacto American reason to break out Corona’s, listen to live music and celebrate the … um, you know … well we’re not real sure what Cinco de Mayo actually celebrates. Regardless, SnagMob wants to commemorate this special occasion by offering up a tasty recipe from Daryl Fortner, owner of Tulum Fresh Mexican Grill and the no oficial (that’s unofficial in Spanish) Mayor of Cinco de Mayo. He graciously provided SnagBlog with a recipe for his Tulime Pie, a creamier and sweeter take on the traditional Key Lime Pie. It’s so easy, you could probably make it after celebrating Cinco de Mayo (although you’ll need to remember to turn the oven off when you’re through).

  • 5 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup key lime juice (can substitute regular limes)
  • 1 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crust

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Combine the beaten egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk and lime juice. Mix well.
  3. Pour into unbaked graham cracker shell.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Allow to cool.
  5. Garnish with a thin slice of lime (optional).
Thanks to Daryl and Tulum for sharing. If you’re looking for something to do on May 5th, head on over to Tulum for $2 beers, $2 tacos and live music. And if you’re a local restaurant and want to share a recipe to the millions (and millions) of SnagBlog readers, feel free to email us by clicking here.

Support Local

SnagMob ran across a unique project the other day we wanted to share with you. The 3/50 project is an initiative to help small businesses across the country. The premise is simple: If half the employed population across the country spent $50 a month at three independently-owned businesses a month, it would generate more than $42.6 billion in revenue. From their website:

For every $100 spent in locally-owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures. If you spend that on a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.

These numbers are likely higher for Jackson because our Tennessee sales taxes are higher than almost all other states in the country (thanks to no state income tax!).

Why is SnagMob talking about this? Because as we grow in West Tennessee, we’re partnering with small and independent business owners who work, play, employ and support the Jackson community, our community. And we simply want to return the favor.

We all love a good deal. Heck, we negotiate the best deals in town, but take a moment and think about these figures the next time  you’re trying to find a product or service online that you might be able to find in your hometown.

If at all possible, let’s keep it local. Now back to the fun stuff…

Sweet CeCe’s opening in Jackson

Rejoice! Sweet CeCe’s, a frozen yogurt franchise based in Middle Tennessee, is opening a store in The Columns in Jackson, TN. Think of Sweet CeCe’s as one part Maggie Moo’s, one part T.C.B.Y. (remember those?), and two parts gluttonous paradise.

This hot frozen yogurt concept is growing quickly throughout Tennessee and Kentucky, and it’s spreading a deliciously simple gospel: Tasty, self-serve frozen yogurt made to your specs. Walk in, dispense your selected frozen yogurt (with flavors like cake batter and snickerdoodle), pile on the toppings of your choice and deliver your masterpiece to be weighed, priced and indiscriminately judged.

Based on SnagMob’s inside sources (read: the Sweet CeCe’s Jackson Facebook page), the store has a pre-opening party on Tuesday, April 12, and a soft launch soon after. SnagMob is making plans to attend the festivities Wedding Crasher-style, and we’re also trying to find out from Sweet CeCe if the party is a B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bowl) event.

Check out some of the reviews of the Franklin store on Yelp:

Five stars from Lindsey M.:

LOVED the concept and frozen yogurt at Sweet CeCe’s!

Choose one, twist or a compliation of flavors for your frozen yogurt experience – sweet cream, peanut butter, raspberry, etc…  Then choose items to mix in – cheese cake, Reese’s cups, brownie, etc.. And of course, toppings!  Chocolate fudge, caramel, Reese’s pieces, m&m’s, strawberries, blackberries, etc… anything you can think of and they probably have it!

Perfect idea for “small town” Franklin.  Plus, the employees were extremely friendly (think constant smile) and talkative!  And, samples of each flavor makes the experience more personal and enjoyable.  Paying is by weight, so pile on as much or little as you’d like.  Great idea for kids!

And, if you live locally, grab a punch card and you’ll get rewards for patronizing Sweet Cece’s…

And five stars from Frasier star Kelsey G.:

So Good!! I highly recommend this place to both froze yogurt lovers and ice cream lovers (the froyo is so good you would think its ice cream if no one told you different).
super easy to personalize your yogurt and mix and match flavors! you won’t sorry, well you will be when you don’t have any left 😉
